Capital Caring now accepts donations of automobiles. We are registered with v-Dac: Vehicle Donation to Any Charity. v-Dac handles the sale of all donated vehicles. Capital Caring does not accept donations of vehicles by any other means.
How it Works (FAQ’s)
v-Dac accepts any vehicle, anywhere, running or not
Any vehicle is accepted, as well as trucks, motorcycles, RVs, boats, airplanes, heavy equipment, farm machinery, etc. They have contracts with over 3500 tow companies, auctions and recyclers, nationwide, so they pick-up almost anywhere in the country
Free: No Costs to the donor or to Capital Caring
All expenses are deducted from the gross sales price and, if the costs ever exceed the price, v-Dac covers those costs.
Quick Pick up
v-Dac arranges a “Quick Pick-up.” Normal pick up schedule is within a few days of receiving the paperwork from the donor. The donor will receive a call from the tow service to arrange a convenient time. It usually takes 45-60 days from the time the vehicle is picked-up until the entire process is complete and the net cash proceeds are delivered to Capital Caring.
By Internet or Phone
Most donors (80%) prefer to input the vehicle and pick-up info on v-Dac’s website. The donor just clicks on Donate Now, or calls 877-999-8322 and a trained Service Center Staff will walk them through the donation process.
Tax Benefits for the donor
The donor receives a tax deduction equal to what the vehicle is sold for if the donor itemizes their deductions. If the vehicle is sold for less than $500, donor can deduct the fair market value up to $500. Donor will receive a tax receipt stating what the vehicle sold for within a few days of the sale of the vehicle.

Tax Deduction Value
Donors are entitled to receive a Tax Deduction equal to the sales price of the vehicle, if they itemize their deductions. If the vehicle sold for less than $500, donors can deduct the “fair market value” up to $500. They will receive a tax receipt or IRS Form 1098C stating what the vehicle sold for within 30 days of its sale.
Fair Market Value
The “fair market value” of a vehicle is the price that a donor could sell it for in its current condition to another individual, willing seller and willing buyer, and it represents the cash that a donor gives up to make the donation. A convenient source of this information is the private party sale value as shown in online valuation guides such as Kelley Blue Book.
IRS Form Filing
ICA, as the actual recipient of the donation, must file Form 1098C with the IRS for all vehicle donations, including donor’s Social Security number and vehicle’s Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). There are no tax filings required of the non-profit.
