What our Employees say about working at Capital Caring Health

For the first time in a dozen years of being a nurse, I am surrounded by clinicians that embody all the best aspects of nursing. They nurture new hires, follow evidence-based practices in patient care, and believe that “teamwork makes the dream work.

The ability to help someone when they need help the most is…the kindest, most loving thing a person can do for another, whether you’re a nurse, a nursing assistant or a family member. Every single day is different. We meet people where they are, with all its challenges. I love my work and find it immensely fulfilling.

As chaplain, my job is to make sure that the emotional and spiritual needs of patients and families facing the end of life are met. I want to give them a listening ear, a compassionate heart, and the calming knowledge that they’re not walking this journey alone.

Who We Are and What We Do

Capital Caring Health is one of the oldest and largest non‐profit providers of hospice and palliative care in the United States. A leader in the field, our mission is to provide patients and their families with advanced illness care that is second to none. We are also on the cusp of change, developing new programs to meet the expanding needs of our communities—and an aging nation—in innovative, comprehensive and compassionate ways.

Each day, we provide holistic, person-and family-centered care to approximately 1,300 area residents with life-limiting progressive illnesses, disabilities and disease. We serve patients from the District of Columbia; Maryland’s Prince George’s and Montgomery counties; and throughout Northern Virginia, the Fredericksburg and Richmond communities.

Care is typically delivered directly in the patient’s own home.  However, we also offer inpatient services when patients need more intensive care, or when caregivers are temporarily unavailable or unable to provide the care required. In fact, Capital Caring Health has the greatest inpatient capacity of any other hospice in the region, with 57 beds at four facilities in Northern Virginia; Greenbelt, Maryland; and the District of Columbia.

Altogether, Capital Caring Health has 900-plus employees and 1,000 volunteers. As a non-profit, we provide more than $3 million in charity care each year to those who are uninsured and have nowhere else to turn for end-of-life care.

Working at Capital Caring Health provides a rewarding and mission filled experience, and fulfillment and a sense of purpose and pride you won’t find anywhere else.
