Since the founding of Capital Caring Health in 1977, our primary commitment has been to provide quality and compassionate hospice and palliative care to our patients. People who are experiencing the most serious of illnesses with sometimes overwhelming symptoms deserve to be made comfortable in the final phase of their journeys. And yet, the last months or weeks of someone’s life can bring all-new medical issues that cause increased amounts of distress and pain.
Our solution is to work hard to ensure that our patients and their families have all the care and support they need to see through these difficult times. Our interdisciplinary team of providers works hand-in-hand with you and your loved ones to ensure you are well-equipped to overcome the challenges that may arise during this experience.
Best of all, Capital Caring Health makes it easy to get hospice care in Maryland. Our patients can choose to receive this service from the comfort of their own homes or at either of our convenient locations in Maryland. Learn more about our hospice and end-of-life care services below.
What is Hospice Care
At its center, hospice care is all about being compassionate toward the individual who is suffering. Hospice attempts to alleviate the symptoms of a disease rather than the disease itself. This is typically done because doctors have been unable to scale back the illness with treatment. In cases like these, when a terminal illness rapidly progresses and cannot be stopped, hospice steps in.
But, what exactly does hospice care look like? Since its main purpose is to make a patient comfortable, hospice might include keeping the patient in a bed most or all of the time. A palliative doctor may prescribe painkillers or medications to dull or eliminate the pain and discomfort of a disease’s worst symptoms. All of this is done so that patients can live out the time they have left focusing on what is most important to them, such as speaking with family, friends, or spiritual counselors.
When to Consider Hospice
For families and their loved ones, often the most difficult aspect of hospice is deciding when is the right time. A person can be in hospice for up to six months or longer, depending on the individual circumstances. At Capital Caring Health, we recommend patients spend at least two to three months in hospice care. This way, the individual and their loved ones receive the greatest benefit.
Our hospice care in Maryland is meant for patients with the gravest of illnesses, people who have stopped treatment on the advice of their doctors. At that point, when it has been mutually decided that the disease will now be allowed to take its course, hospice becomes the ideal setting for the patient.
The medical conditions that may ultimately induce a patient to seek hospice care include:
- Cancer
- Congestive heart failure
- Dementia and related illnesses
- HIV/AIDS
- Kidney failure
- Lung disease
- Neurological disorders
Find Compassionate Hospice Care in Maryland
This is our overarching philosophy at Capital Caring Health: anyone diagnosed with a terminal disease who desires to spend their final weeks or months with family or spiritual advisors deserves to do so in peace. The painful symptoms of a disease should not interfere with people being able to fulfill their final earthly wishes.
That is why hospice exists. Our staff works with patients and their families to accommodate just about any wish. Medical, emotional, and spiritual assistance will all be available to you, either through hospice at your home or at our Maryland location in Largo.
