We all want our loved ones to have comfortable and sustained care when they enter the final stages of their illnesses. A specialized form of medical attention, hospice is known for improving the quality of life and meeting the wishes of patients who are nearing the end. Hospice care provides these patients emotional and physical support to make their time as comfortable as possible.
Capital Caring Health’s staff of nurses, home-health aides, social workers, supervising physicians, and nurse practitioners work diligently and compassionately to support hospice patients and their families to see through this difficult time.
You can access Capital Caring Health’s hospice services in Virginia at any of our locations within the state, including in Arlington County, Fairfax County, Loudoun County, Prince William County, Fauquier, and independent cities Alexandria, Falls Church, Manassas, Manassas Park. We can also deliver our hospice services directly to our patients in their homes. Learn more below about what you can expect about hospice care with Capital Caring Health.
The unfortunate truth is that many people don’t fully understand what hospice is until they need it for themselves or a loved one. Hospice care is a profound and compassionate approach to end-of-life support, designed to provide comfort, dignity, and emotional well-being to individuals facing terminal illnesses and their families. When it is time for hospice and end-of-life care, we shift the focus from curing an illness to enhancing the quality of life during the final stages.
At Capital Caring Health, we have an interdisciplinary team of experts to help give our patients individualized care when they reach this stage of life. Our goal is to create an environment where individuals can experience their remaining time with as much comfort and tranquility as possible. This includes addressing physical discomfort, managing pain, and ensuring the individual’s emotional and spiritual needs are met. Hospice care also extends its support to the loved ones, offering them guidance, counseling, and resources to navigate this challenging journey alongside their family members.
When to Consider Hospice
One of the most difficult decisions is determining when it’s time for hospice. Hospice care supports individuals who are nearing the end of their lives. It aims to furnish patients with multidisciplinary treatment that eases pain instead of attempting to cure the underlying illness.
Patients can be in hospice for months if needed; it all depends on the patient’s specific situation. Research shows families become more assured and satisfied when their loved one is in hospice. This is because hospice ensures people are comfortable and ready for the next phase of their life journey. When it comes to receiving hospice and end-of-life care, it’s far better for everyone involved to have ample time to use it rather than to struggle without it.
Health conditions and illnesses that may require hospice care include the following:
- Cancer
- Congestive heart failure
- Dementia and related illnesses
- HIV/AIDS
- Kidney failure
- Lung disease
- Neurological disorders
Receiving Hospice Care
At Capital Caring Health, we recognize that no two patients are the same. Given that reality, our staff works round-the-clock and provides on-call support to accommodate whatever a patient or family might need. Whether your loved ones require hospice services in one of our Virginia facilities or in the comfort of their homes, we will work with you. Patients deserve to have what they want during this phase of their lives, and we aim to assist them with that.
It is also important to mention that we recognize that a patient’s health can deteriorate even while in hospice care. Patients can experience shortness of breath, long periods of fatigue, and other life-limiting symptoms. Capital Caring Health’s team-oriented physicians address any additional health concerns that arise during a patient’s time in our hospice care.
To that end, we provide “tuck-in” calls two to three times a week to check up on our patients’ health. The Capital Caring Health Point of Hope team is also available for counseling support for patients and family members who need it.
