TLC’s Monte Durham, Capital Caring join forces to improve care in D.C.-area neighborhoods

Monte Durham, star of TLC’s ‘Say Yes to the Dress: Atlanta’ earlier this year led a makeover of the Thrift Store and Boutique operated by hospice and palliative care provider Capital Caring in Falls Church, Va.

“It was great fun to spend a few days making over Capital Caring’s thrift store. I’ve been a volunteer here for many, many years, and I strongly support the mission of hospice,” Durham said.

The not-for-profit hospice’s thrift store, located on Route 50 in the Willston Center, has fashionable clothing, unique treasures and, hidden gems among other novelties for sale, and thanks to Durham and the store’s dedicated volunteers, boasts an exciting new look. Capital Caring is a not-for-profit hospice and palliative care provider serving nearly 1,200 patients and families each day across northern Virginia, the District of Columbia, and Prince George’s County, Maryland.

“I encourage everyone to stop by and check out some great items at the thrift store,” Durham added. “There are so many finds; everytime I come in to donate, I leave with even more than I brought in!”

Proceeds from Capital Caring’s Thrift Store, as well as the Twice As Nice Shop, an antique and furniture thrift store in Tysons Corner, benefit patients and families dealing with serious, advanced illness. Volunteers are a vital component of hospice care and working at a thrift store is rewarding way for volunteers to support Capital Caring’s mission. Donations are warmly accepted at both thrift store locations.
