Advocating for the Best Care Possible
Capital Caring was founded when hospice was in its infancy in America. Our founder, oncologist Josefina B. Magno, MD, understood that people living with serious illness needed care, whether or not there was a cure for their condition. Her determination with leading policymakers, more than 35 years ago, guaranteed all Americans to receive hospice care through the Medicare Hospice Benefit.
Today, we are proud to carry on Dr. Magno’s legacy through our advocacy and outreach on Capitol Hill. We also continue to our efforts by working with like-minded organizations and partnerships who comparably believe that everyone who is medically eligible should have access to hospice care, regardless of their ability to pay.
Capital Caring’s President and CEO, Malene Smith Davis, is known nationally for her work in advocating for excellent end-of-life care. She is highly involved in the Coalition to Transform Advanced Care (C-TAC), a national, nonprofit, non-partisan alliance of patient and consumer advocacy groups, health care professionals and providers, private sector stakeholders, faith-based organizations, and health care payers with the shared mission to help provide all Americans with comprehensive, high quality, patient-centered care.
As an industry leader, she makes speeches across the country and works regularly with influential policymakers to bring real change to the way our nation addresses end-of-life care policies and regulations.
