World Renown Philanthropist Michael Milken to be Honored at Major Event Hosted by Capital Caring Health
Falls Church, Virginia; February 7, 2023: Capital Caring Health, affiliate of Chapters Health System, the largest not-for-profit advanced illness and hospice care provider in the nation, is pleased to have Michael Milken as its Honoree at its annual Gala on Saturday, April 13, 2024.
The Gala theme is TRANQUIL SPACES: SPECIAL PLACES FOR CANCER CARE AND MORE and ties into a major focus of Milken’s philanthropy endeavors- notably cancer research and care. Moreover, the theme brings much-needed attention to the important role Capital Caring Health’s two inpatient hospice facilities play in supporting patients and families, including those with cancer. Each is the only one available in these two locales – one in Washington, DC, and one in Northern Virginia. Other hospice groups often refrain from running such inpatient hospice centers because the annual costs far exceed Medicare and insurance reimbursement.
One in three patients cared for by Capital Caring Health has late-stage cancer, and for some of these patients, the special around-the-clock care at the inpatient centers is essential to keeping them as comfortable and pain-free as possible. In addition to the highest-level care, Capital Caring Health’s inpatient facilities are unique as they offer warm, home-like environments that are specially designed to bring comfort during a difficult time. Family members are welcome to visit at all hours and even stay overnight with their loved ones in specially designed suites.
During the Gala, Milken will receive the Champion of Care Award for his work to advance medical research, education, and public health for five decades. While well known for the Milken Institute, which he founded in 1993, he also chairs FasterCures, which speeds progress against all life-threatening diseases, as well as the Prostate Cancer Foundation, the world’s largest private funder of prostate cancer research. Milken is also a co-founder of the Melanoma Research Alliance and honored to have George Washington University name their Public Health School the Milken Institute School of Public Health.
In a joint statement, Andrew Molosky, President and CEO of Chapters Health, and Kimberly Grove, Capital Caring Health Managing Director, remarked, “We are thrilled to honor Mike Milken, who has dedicated himself for 50 years to making the latest medical research available to improve cancer and other disease treatments for all in need regardless of race, or ability to pay – exactly the same mission at Capital Caring Health and Chapters Health.”
