Malene Smith Davis, MSN, MBA, RN, CHPN, President and CEO
Malene Smith Davis is President and CEO of Capital Caring, one of the oldest, largest, and most experienced hospice and palliative care providers in the United States. Prior to Capital Caring, Ms. Davis was President and CEO of Hospice Care Corporation (HCC) in Arthurdale, West Virginia. Starting as the organization’s first paid employee in 1988, Ms. Davis built HCC into the largest hospice organization in West Virginia, serving 12 counties. Recognized nationally for her work in advancing the hospice philosophy and advocating for better care for the seriously ill, Ms. Davis has earned numerous accolades. Most recently, she received the West Virginia School of Nursing Top 50 Graduates Award. She has served on many boards to advance hospice and palliative care. Ms. Davis completed her nursing degree (RN) at West Virginia University in Morgantown. She holds Masters Degrees in Business Administration (MBA) and Nursing (MSN) from West Virginia University.
David Schwind, Executive Vice President, Administrative Services and CFO
David Schwind serves as Executive Vice President for Administrative Services and Chief Financial Officer for Capital Caring. Mr. Schwind has been a member of the Capital Caring team since 2005 and brings more than 25 years of experience in the health care industry. Prior to joining Capital Caring, Mr. Schwind served as the Senior Vice President for Reimbursement and Regulatory Affairs of an organization providing ancillary support services to long-term care facilities throughout the United States. He has held management positions in several of the largest teaching hospitals on the East Coast. Mr. Schwind is an advanced member of the Healthcare Financial Management Association and is a past president of their Washington, D.C. Chapter. He is a graduate of the University of Maryland.
Cameron Muir, MD, Executive Vice President, Quality and Access and Chief Medical Officer
J. Cameron Muir, MD, FAAHPM, is a nationally recognized expert in palliative care and hospice. Prior to his work with Capital Caring, Dr. Muir was Medical Director of the Palliative Care and Home Hospice Program of Northwestern Memorial Hospital. He served as the Director of the Palliative Care Program of the Northwestern University Medical School. Dr. Muir is Board-Certified in Hospice and Palliative Medicine and Internal Medicine. Dr. Muir received his medical degree from the University of Virginia School of Medicine, completed his residency in internal medicine at Dartmouth-Hitchcock, and earned fellowships in bioethics at the University of Chicago Medical Center and in Hospice and Palliative Medicine at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine.
